Introduction to the work of Kodwo Eshun

18:00, Beurscafé

When he published More Brilliant Than The Sun: Adventures in Sonic Fiction in 1998, Kodwo Eshun described it as ‘a study of visions of the future in music from Sun Ra to 4 Hero.’ This cult book, now long out of print but due to be re-issued soon, has been cited as influential by generations of makers and devotees of electronic and/or black music. This conference will explore the contemporary legacy of the book and Eshun’s wider work, with a specific interest in Afrofuturism, inventive prose and the quest for a language matching new sonic manifestations.
